Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does an adjustment do and is it painful?
An adjustment is the specific application of forces to facilitate the body’s correction of nerve interference. In other words it alleviates pressure placed on the nerve due to injury, stress, toxins in your system or trauma. It is rarely painful, as a matter of fact, it actually makes you feel better. Many times you will notice a difference immediately.

2. Why do I need x-rays?
X-rays help us get to the root of your problem. For example: you come in with shoulder pain. We would take pictures of the neck region. This is due to the fact that the nerves of the neck flow down into your shoulder, arm and hand. It allows the chiropractor to see exactly what is going on and allow the Dr. to take care of the cause of your pain and thus alleviate it.

3. Are chiropractic doctors trained the same way as medical doctors?
Education between the two are similar however, the focus of disciplines are different. In chiropractic, there are more hours of study with heavy emphasis on Anatomy, Diagnosis, Neurology, X-ray and Orthopedics. The Chiropractic field of study also includes pediatrics and geriatrics. In this way a chiropractor can help any age of patient.

4. What is electrical muscle stimulation?
It is used to help relax and strengthen the muscles to promote healing. Hot packs are used to increase circulation to the area so that the healing process can take place. Sometimes cold packs will be used to help reduce swelling and muscle spasms.

5. What techniques do the chiropractors use?
They are trained in a wide variety of techniques to help their patients get well faster.

6. Do the chiropractors use vitamins or herbs in treatment?
We sell a variety of vitamins and supplements in each office. The Dr. will research for you what is best for your treatment.

7. What is the noise that I hear during the adjustment?
The noise you hear is similar to when you crack your knuckles. When an adjustment is made, the gases that are present in the joint spaces are released. When the gases are released, you hear that familiar popping sound. It is nothing that one needs to be concerned about.

8. Can you have adjustments if you have spinal disease or surgery?
Yes, we take each patient’s health and specific situation into consideration. The chiropractor will modify the technique in which to adjust the patient. The adjustments help patients heal quicker.
